Oaxaca dance group to perform in Belize

Story Picture
When dance and music come together, anything can happen. In the Oaxaca Contemporary Dance Company, that’s just what they want. In their dance training sessions, they encourage freedom of expression using different subjects and as many movements as possible to stir up personal creativity in every dancer. Their style might be different from what Belizeans are used to, but you’re still going to be captivated. And we’ve got the sneak preview.

Guillermo Gutierrez, Director, Institute of Cooperation and Culture Mexico-Belize

“They are presenting three different works. They worked during last year; they worked with people from Canada and Japan. They interchanged point of views, experience, and the result of this contact is the work that will be presented at this moment.”

“Well in this case, it’s just contemporary music in some cases it’s from the United States and other cases Japan, music. And the coordinator of the group is just telling us that it’s just something regarding the expression in the big countries. In this case it’s just from Oaxaca but they have influence from other parts.”

The dance company arrives in Belize tomorrow and will have a morning performance at Escuela Secundaria and another at Muffles College in Orange Walk in the afternoon. On Thursday, they’ll be at the University College of Belize in the morning, before travelling to the National Assembly in Belmopan. Friday, the company returns to Belize City to do two shows at the House of Culture. All performances are free.
