Cynthia Pitts wins Madam Liz Award
Former Family Court Judge Cynthia Pitts received the “Madam Liz” Award in honor of Gwendolyn Lizarraga this weekend from the Belize Women’s Political Caucus Convention. A statement from the Caucus today said that Pitts is one of the pioneers of the Belize women’s movement and she has done, and continues to do, outstanding work to improve the situation of women and children. The Caucus says they will be sponsoring an interactive session with Cynthia Pitts in the near future. A number of women made presentations at this weekend’s convention including Professor Judith Aguilar, President of the Revolutionary Institutional Party Women’s Movement in Quintana Roo Mexico, Senator Audrey Matura Tillett and Therese Rath, Chairperson of the Belize Tourism Board. New officers were also elected. They are President Marilyn Williams, Vice-President Martha Lopez, Secretary Salome Tillett and Treasurer Adelma Broaster. The Belize Women’s Caucus is a voluntary coalition of women from diverse political and cultural backgrounds.
