Two fatalities in weekend accidents
A Cuban living in San Ignacio was killed in a traffic accident on Saturday evening and a Belizean from Orange Walk has been charged. Reports are that 36 year old Alejandro Leon Guerra had slowed to go over a speed bump between miles 68 and 69 on the Western Highway, when a vehicle crashed into him from the rear. Guerra sustained head injuries and died at the scene. 22 year old Juan Novelo of San Jose Village, Orange Walk, has been charged with Manslaughter by negligence, Causing death by careless conduct, Failing to stop and render aid and Driving with a blood alcohol level over the prescribed limit. In another accident on Sunday evening, a 60-year old woman was struck and killed as she attempted to board a bus. Police say Rosabel Vaughn was boarding a bus at the Crooked Tree junction around 3:00pm, when she was hit by a car driven by Angel Leiva of Orange Walk. Leiva told Police he swerved to avoid hitting her, but was unable to avoid a collision. He has been charged with Manslaughter by Negligence, Driving without due care and attention, Causing death by careless conduct.
