SJC to become art and culture center
St. John’s College is embarking on an ambitious project, which will not only benefit students, but the larger community. The Landivar campus will be the site of the new National Center for Art Education and Cultural Understanding. The Center is scheduled to open in August and will offer art education courses for primary and secondary school teachers, students from other schools and interested adults in the wider community. The courses, lectures and research will be accompanied by the revival of the “Belizean Studies” journal, which will focus on ethnic and cultural understanding. SJC President Carlos Perdomo says the program will start off gradually, but already they are in discussions with the government of the Republic of China, Taiwan about funding a ceramic studio and kiln.
