Cancer Society elects new board

The Belize Cancer Society recently held it’s 3rd annual general meeting. In his keynote address, Dr. Neil K. Garbutt proposed that “attitude has a great deal to do with one’s health and the outcome of one’s survival, when afflicted by diseases such as cancer.” Special awards were presented to Dr. Greg Castillo for his outstanding contribution to the Society and particularly for the service he has given to cancer patients, while outgoing President, Laura Tucker-Longsworth received an award for advancing the mission of the Belize Cancer Society. Some people and businesses were also given certificates of appreciation. The election of new officers to serve for the period 2000-2001 saw the election of Higinia Leslie as President, Anthony Soberanis as Vice President, Karen Skeen as Secretary, Lisbeth Castillo as Assistant Secretary, Lawrence Ellis as Treasurer and Kimberly Soberanis as Assistant Treasurer.
