Restricted Event Hotlines to be Activated!
To complement the work that the cops are doing to help curb the spread of COVID-19 and ensure that the public complies with the regulations, Commissioner Williams says that they are also looking to activate hotlines to facilitate the reporting of violations of the quarantine regulations. Williams says that they have been inundated with reports of violations – and they want to make it easier for the public and for the officers on the ground to make reports.

“Is it a challenging task to identify, locate and enforce at all these different parties taking place?”
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“Of course, it is extremely difficult. The amount of calls that we get on a daily basis, persons complaining about parties here and parties there, it is alarming to know that in a time like this despite imperative evidence that this virus is deadly that people continue not to heed to the effects of this virus. So, it is hard for us. Another thing I will be doing, you would know that we have some hotlines in Belize City that is used for border jumpers. We have two for B.T.L. and three for SMART. I will speak to SMART and B.T.L. today to SMART and B.T.L. to see if we can have one of the B.T.L. and one of the SMART lines transferred from being a border jumper hotline to a restricted event hotline. So, we are going to create a hotline for persons to be able to call in on those who are hosting these illegal parties all over the country and once the information is received then it will be trickled down to the task force within the respective formation with a view to ensure that those persons who are hosting these events are dealt with.”
