Murder suspects free as witness fails to appear in court

Two men charged with Murder were set free on Monday by Supreme Court Justice, Adolph Lucas when the Prosecutor, Crown Counsel Trenia Young entered a case of nolle prosequi. Twenty-one year old Rushane Andrewin and twenty-four year old Troy Dawson were charged with the murder of twenty year old Meldrick Flowers and the attempted murder of sixteen year old Michael Malic. But the case fell flat when the prosecution’s main witness could not be located. The incident occurred around eight-twenty-five on May fifth, 2007. Flowers and Malic were riding on a bicycle with Flowers pedaling and Malic on the handle. When they reached near a bakery on Central American Boulevard, shots rang out behind them. Malic said he and Flowers fell to the ground and he spotted the gunman and another man coming behind him. Malic also said he was hit seven times after the gunman shot Flowers in the head. Malic took four bullets in the abdomen, two in the left hip and one in the left side of the back. While he was lucky to survive the attack, Flowers died from severe brain injury.
