When Will Candidates be Nominated?

On the night of the November eleventh General Elections, former Corozal Bay Area Representative Pablo Marin announced that he was retiring from politics and hinted to former four-time Corozal Town mayor, Hilberto Campos as his replacement in that division.  In the absence of Campos confirming his candidacy, this means that both major political parties are already in the process of selecting the candidates that will be nominated to contest the by-election. Late this evening, the P.U.P, Corozal Bay Executive met and have pledged their support to Elvia Vega Samos, the sister of “Dido,” as their candidate of choice to represent the P.U.P. in the by-election. Samos has agreed to continue the legacy of her brother, having served and is presently serving as the chairlady of the executive. An educator, as well, Samos wants to ensure that her brother’s years of hard work will not be in vain.   But when will these persons be nominated? Tamai breaks down that process.

Josephine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer

“The by-election date should not be less than fifteen days and not more than twenty-one days after nomination day. So depending on when that by-election date is set, it has to be between fifteen and twenty-one days prior to that date that nomination day will be held.”
