U.S. Relations with Belize to Continue with Incoming Administration
The new president elect of the United States, Joe Biden was confirmed on Monday and will be officially sworn in on January twentieth. Keith Gilges of the U.S. Embassy was asked about the priorities moving into this new term of office. He says that despite a new administration, the relationship between both countries remains the same.
Keith Gilges, Chargé d’Affaires, U.S. Embassy in Belize
“In my role as Chargé d’Affaires, we work on building the partnership between Belize and the United States and no matter who is in charge in Belize or who is in charge in the United States, that relationship is going to stay the same. Now an incoming administration may have certain areas that they give more emphasis to, but it is not going to be a wholesale change. There might be some areas that they say we pay a bit more instruction attention to this than to that. And listen I will take my instructions from Washington and if they say that we want to focus on some different areas, we can. But it’s a matter of focus; it is not shifting everything entirely. I mean our relationship between the United States and Belize has been around a long time and it is going to continue and it is a great relationship.”
