New Guidelines to be Implemented at the P.G.I.A.
New guidelines for passenger arrivals at the Philip Goldson International Airport are being developed by a committee led by Minister of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, Andre Perez. The need for revised standard operating procedures for entry at the P.G.I.A. is in anticipation of an increase in arrivals during the first few months of 2021. Notwithstanding the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, as well as the Ministry of Health, under the previous administration, to modify the airport in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cabinet has approved the formation of a new taskforce to make the arrival process more efficient. This comes hard on the heels of a travel advisory issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in which Belize and one hundred and seventy-three other countries have been flagged. On Wednesday, Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler, in admitting that the COVID-19 pandemic has created a rather fluid situation for the travel and leisure sector, also said that the number of flights coming into the country is now between ten and fifteen daily.
