Channel 7 Ditches Net Vasquez
Former B.T.L. Chairman Nestor Vasquez has also parted ways with his family business, Tropical Vision Limited, Channel Seven after thirty-nine years of ownership. The move comes in the wake of a scandal at Belize Telemedia Limited where Vasquez racked up a bill of almost a million dollars in personal expenses on the company’s corporate credit card. In a released issued by the company earlier today, it stated, “Tropical Vision, Channel Seven is making a strategic pivot, with a change in leadership and parting of ways with its founder and former owner, Mr. Nestor A. Vasquez. Channel Seven started operating in 1981 as the first broadcast television station in Belize and evolved over the past four decades as a family-owned enterprise. We thank Nestor Vasquez for his pioneering work and dedication to the station throughout the years. A new ownership group led by Jules Vasquez, who is now the Managing Director has acquired Nestor Vasquez’s holdings in Tropical Vision Limited, Channel Seven. As part of finalizing the change of ownership, Tropical Vision has also settled all outstanding matters with B.T.L., including the cancellation of an advertising contract executed by Nestor Vasquez. The outstanding balance on the contract has now been paid in full by Tropical Vision.” Vasquez has been succeeded by Mark Lizarraga as the new chairman of B.T.L.
