Bike rider killed on Western Highway
A woman from St. Matthew’s Village was killed in a traffic accident on the Western Highway. Maria Irena Magana Lopez was riding her bike between miles 37 and 38 on Sunday evening, when she was struck by a pick-up truck. Karl Petzold told police he saw Lopez riding in the same direction, but as he tried to pass her she made a sudden left turn onto the highway. He says he swerved and applied brakes but it was too late. He took her to the Belmopan Hospital and then to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but she died.
