Murder in Orange walk, teen arrested
This weekend had more than its share of violence and death on the roads. Tonight, Police are still trying to establish a 16 year old’s motive in the murder of a man from San Lazaro Village in the Orange Walk District. Police report that on Saturday night the Blanco family was having a party when an uninvited teenager, looking like he’d been drinking, entered their home. When they asked him to leave, the young man pulled out a machete and started to curse them. The family threatened to call the police and finally the youth left. Shortly after, 29 year old Juan Blanco left the house to make sure a cousin got home safely. The young man then attacked Blanco, chopping him several times with his machete before running off. Blanco’s wife, Elodia, says about five minutes later; her husband stumbled into the house with wounds to his neck, abdomen and right arm. He told her who had hurt him, but collapsed soon after. Blanco was rushed to the Orange Walk Town Hospital, but he died around 8:00 on Sunday morning. Police have arrested and charged the 16-year-old with murder.
