ComPol Williams Warns Gang Members
Christmas is less than two days away and Commissioner Chester Williams and his officers have re-strategized the police department’s crime-fighting efforts to keep citizens safe. The focus, however, is Belize City and in particular, south side where gang-related crimes have increased over the past few weeks. Three main areas have been identified and the department’s Special Patrol Unit has been assigned to keep gang members in the San Martin’s area under control. The Gang Suppression Unit will be looking over the extension and George Street areas. Williams has cautioned his officers not to be brutal, but if needs be, gang members will feel the wrath of the police.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“We are also strategizing our efforts in the Martins area, the extension area and the George Street Area. Those were the areas that were becoming problematic. You would know now that the GSU is out of the Martins area. We now have the SPU in. I anticipate that with the leadership of Mister Gamboa taking over the policing of the Martins area we are going to see significant reduction in the gang flare ups in that area. The GSU, which is a much smaller unit, should be better poised to be able to police the extension and the George Street area. So we are going to see where that goes. The gang members have also been told. We are monitoring their activities and if they continue their activities, we know what to do. While yes the directive is for them to do their job it does not mean that they we going to be brutal but if and when the time comes for them to be brutal, someone wants to behave in such a way being out there perpetuating violence you don’t expect the police is going to come with powder and lotion to powder and lotion you. You are going to feel the wrath of the police.”
