Still No Sign of Missing Fishermen in the South
The search and rescue effort for a group of four fishermen continues in the waters off the coast of Stann Creek District. Three of the men, we now understand, set out from Dangriga on a fishing trip and were preparing to return to mainland when Jeffrey Gomez caught a ride with them as they departed Southern Long Caye. That was over a week ago and the men have since disappeared without a trace. Notwithstanding a joint operation between the coast guard and the police department, the search party is seemingly no closer to locating the men. This afternoon Commissioner of Police Chester Williams gave an update on search efforts being carried out near Southern Long Caye. So far, the searches have come up empty, even as there are reports that there may have been foul play.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“The police and the coastguard remain out at sea searching the area of Long Caye where the men were supposedly last seen, but so far our search has revealed nothing. We are going to continue the search for as long as we can. And we are also getting assistance from other members of the public from Dangriga and so we are going to see how that search materializes down the road.”

“Is there any concern that these men may be the victims of any sort of foul play or so, sir?”
Chester Williams
“Well there are several things that are coming to mind. I don’t want to speculate at this time. We are going to wait and see what happens down the road.”
