Family of murdered man denies connection to missing fishermen

Matthew Gomez Sr.

When we spoke with the family of Errol Gomez today, we asked them if they believed that his murder is connected to the disappearance of the four fishermen from Dangriga. Matthew Gomez Senior says that he doesn’t believe so, although the fourth man, Jeffrey Gomez, is a relative. He says that there is nothing to indicate that the Christmas Day murder and the disappearance are connected simply because Jeffrey Gomez wasn’t a part of that fishing trip – he simply begged for a ride on the boat and became a casualty of what transpired. Gomez also acknowledged that while his son knew the other three missing men that they weren’t his close associates:

Matthew Gomez Sr., Father of Deceased

“I know mi lee bwai Jeffrey dah mi lee cousin, yes, but Jeffrey nuh work with deh crowd deh. But the next three brethrens deh affiliated with my son and thing.”

Andrea Polanco

“They are his friends?”

Matthew Gomez Sr.

“Yeah they dah brethren.”

Andrea Polanco

“He wouldn’t have anything to do with their disappearance or so?”

Matthew Gomez Sr.

“I nuh think suh, mien, my lee bwai ina wah different world. My son and deh play football and deh thing but I nuh know my son to know of any disappearance of anybody and thing. My son nuh hang out with dah crowd to that extent and thing. They dah brethren and thing and once upon a time deh dah mi thugs but of late my son nuh hang out with dah crowd none at all. There will be a lot of speculations and thing yuh know. But if wah person want go go and join police, deh nuh into no craziness they into law abiding. Suh, I nuh wah they put Wacka, Brack and deh disappearance link with my lee son because Wack and deh dah different vibes from my lee son. They gone missing and deh kill my lee bwai inna his house. Dah two different story.”
