Priest subject of vicious rumours
This weekend rumours that a priest had admitted to the child murders and bloody clothes and other incriminating evidence had been found in his possession spread like wildfire throughout the city. However, they proved to be untrue. Today News Five spoke with Police Press Officer Christy Castillo and Father Noel Leslie of St. Ignatius Parish.
Christy Castillo, Police Press Officer
“No, no priest or anybody from the Religious Clergy has been detained, as a suspect or has been arrested for any of the child murders. We have received no information that links any member of the religious clergy to these child murders.”
Jacqueline Woods, Reporting
“What do you think about the reports that have been circulating all
weekend?”
Christy Castillo
“I heard the first report on Friday and the police department and the police has and will continue to deny all reports.”
Father Noel Leslie, Pastor, St. Ignatius Parish
“I think I heard it first of all Saturday evening. I didn’t hear anymore until after my morning mass Sunday morning about minutes to eight and then after that I have been hearing all day about every forty minutes my phone would ring and then Monday almost every hour with people very concerned about what is going on.”
“First of all I would like to say that they are all untrue they are very malicious statements. I am not pleased with that at all. I have been hearing that I was arrested and really I have been here all weekend and I am right here talking to you right now.”
Christy Castillo
“Rumours of just malicious nature or whatever, we got to stray away from this. This is a very serious matter these child murders, and we have to take them seriously. We investigate every little bit of information we get but if there is no information there then we can’t do anything about it.
