High school student injured in abduction attempt

Story Picture
Details are sketchy at this time but according to reports, a young girl on her way to Excelsior High School this morning was almost abducted. The girl was reportedly walking on “T” Street in the Port Loyola area when a red pickup truck pulled up. It is not clear what happened next but the girl claims she was knocked in the head. A couple of mechanics in the area told News Five they did not witness the incident but said the girl walked into their yard and asked if she lives there. One of then recognized her and quickly ran to get the girls’ mother. She told them someone tried to kidnap her but she managed to get away. According to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, the victim shows signs of head trauma and has been admitted for observation. Mario Rodriquez, principal of Excelsior high school spoke to News Five.

“Well I received a call sometime between 9:00 and 10:00 this morning while I was in a meeting. A nurse from Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital called and said that one of our students was there in the emergency room. She had been a victim of an assault and she claimed that someone had attempted to kidnap her and she ended up with injuries to her head and she was hospitalized as a result of that.

We plan to be more vigilant and encourage our students as well and the parents. We have gotten a lot of calls from parents who are concerned about the situation and these are valid concerns. We would like that these kind of situations be resolved as quickly as possible and we want our students to feel safe not just here on campus but also off campus.”

Sources tell News Five that the family is claiming that the student was being stalked. Police say because of her condition they have been unable to get a complete report from the girl and have the matter under investigation.
