Murder in the City; Malique Green is Executed on Ross Penn Road
There are two murders to report tonight. The first occurred on Sunday afternoon on the south side of Belize City. Malique Green has had several run-ins with the law, and just before two, as he headed to a shop, he was executed – one shot to the head. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Twenty-year-old Malique Green was funned down on Sunday afternoon on Ross Penn Road in south side Belize City. The unsuspecting youth was riding on his bicycle towards Kraal Road when a gunman opened fire on him. Green died on the spot and as we found out from his older sister, he had just attended his mother-in-law’s funeral when his life was ended.
“His mother-in-law passed away and he mi gone dah di funeral. According to his baby ma, she tell me that when dehn come back, he mi gwen dah 88 [Supermarket] to buy something and she just hear shots and they run outside to see dah who and then dehn see ahn pan the ground with one shot ina ih head.”
The execution took place in an area that Green only recently moved to; he was discovered face up on the pavement and still on his bike.
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division
“…was with some relatives at Caesar Ridge and from there he rode towards Ross Penn road where he was fatally injured. We understand that he is not from that area and he had just recently moved to Caesar Ridge. We are trying to put everything together to determine if it is because of gang-related or any other problem that he had encountered with anybody there since he does not actually reside at that location.”

“Why would someone want him dead?”

“Well, I noh really sure, but he dah no stranger to police, he dah neva no saint or anything like that. So I guess dah mi just fi he time.”
Green is no stranger to the law. Two years ago, back in January 2019, an attempt was made on his life near Kelly Street. While he survived that attack, this time he didn’t. In 2020, he was investigated for a video in which he was brandishing a firearm and threatening to rob a store.
“He was brought into custody reference that video and also he had other charges pending in Placencia and in Belize City.”
Police say that more than ten persons from the Ross Penn Road area have been detained pending further investigation.
Supt. Alejandro Cowo
“There are a number of persons detained at this moment; I believe it is more than ten.”
Andrea Polanco
“Is there a reason why so many persons detained?”
Supt. Alejandro Cowo
“That neighbourhood, we believe that it is somebody from within that area that committed the murder.”
Andrea Polanco
“…and no eyewitnesses?”
Supt. Alejandro Cowo
“We are working on that at this time.”
Andrea Polanco
“Any surveillance footage in the area to help…”
Supt. Alejandro Cowo
“Well police are canvassing that area to see if we can locate any cameras in that area.”
His family describes him as a kind-hearted person. Duane Moody for News Five.
