P.U.P. Rejects Councilor Haresh Vaswani’s Application to Run

One man who didn’t make it on the P.U.P.’s Orange Walk slate is Haresh Vaswani.  He first joined the P.U.P. team in 2018; he was elected a councilor with five thousand and fifty-four votes. Vaswani has had his run-in with the law after being charged for violating the COVID-19 regulation.  However, Vaswani says that he has worked for the community for the past three years, establishing an internet and resource center and distributing more than seven hundred grocery bags to town residents.  He feels that the party has betrayed him. According to Sheppard, Vaswani did apply to run once more, but it was the party’s national executive that rejected the application.

Ladrick “Mad Bull” Sheppard, OW Mayoral Candidate, P.U.P.

“Well at the end of the day the Executive decided that we are going with this team. There were nine of them that applied for the post only six councilor candidates. And the executive decided that we are going with the three females and three males and then nobody contested me for the mayoral candidates when we put in our name. We got to leave it as is. I don’t think that none of us is bigger than the party. The party is powerful thing so we go with whatever the party says and from there we go.”

“Okay, but Harest applied and he was rejected basically, that is what you were saying?”

“Yes they were nine people who applied. And they took six of the nine and he was the one that they didn’t take out of the nine.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Do you think that Haresh not being on your slate this time around takes away from the work he have been doing for the past three years here at the council, getting to know people, establishing the center?”

Ladrick “Mad Bull” Sheppard

“I do believe that. Like I said I do believe. He was working and I applaud him for the work that he did for the past three years. Excellent. He is a great person. I applaud him for all the work that he did but we have to go with what the executive decided. They have the most power when the comes to politics. I always say that. Sometime we might not like the decision that the executive make but at the end of the day they are overall seers for us and we go with that. So once again we thank him for all he did for the past three years and we move on.”

Hipolito Novelo

“You would hope that he would have remained on your slate though?”

Ladrick “Mad Bull” Sheppard

“It would have been great if he would have stayed on but like I said we move on?”

Hipolito Novelo

“But you can choose your candidates. You know with who you are running with.”

Ladrick “Mad Bull” Sheppard

“Again nobody is bigger than the executive and the power of the P.U.P. and we move on.”

We have also heard that there is uproar in Belmopan regarding the P.U.P.’s slate there.
