Amilin Mendez, C.E.O. No More

John Briceño

The Prime Minister was also asked about Amilin Mendez. In a press release dated December fourth, the Briceño administration announced Mendez’s appointment as Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Economic Development. The release stated that as C.E.O., Mendez would support the prime minister’s efforts, who is the substantive minister.  But news of her appointment raised eyebrows because Mendez is an ardent U.D.P. supporter who served the now Leader of the Opposition, Patrick Faber, when he was in office. In fact, according to Faber, Mendez called him seeking advice if she should take up the position. However, Mendez’s term as C.E.O. was short-lived because, as PM Briceño told the media today, he has no C.E.O. in the Ministry of Economic Development.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“We don’t have a C.E.O. right now for the Ministry of Economic Development.”

Reporter

“So someone if being sought?”

Prime Minister John Briceño

“Well she was not appointed. An offer was made, yes.”
