Insurance Company Responds to Shish Family
It would appear that our news story on the plight of the Shish family from San Ignacio reached the eyes and ears of the insurance company. That’s because today, after a period of unanswered calls, messages, and even a demand letter from an attorney, the insurance company finally responded to the family’s attorney, Estevan Perera. Perera says they were preparing to file a lawsuit against the insurance company and the principals of Bahadur Trucking and Backhoe Services for the hardship Shish and her family have been enduring for almost two months after a dump truck ran off the road and into their house. Perera says that they expect the family to receive a new wooden house and all matters settled by week’s end.
Estevan Perera, Attorney for Shish Family
“We sent them all the documents that they requested; proof of ownership of the land, a list of items that were damaged including some cost estimates for the replacement of a home for the family. Since December, we had continued to communicate with I.C.B. up until the seventh of January; however, after that, as our client has indicated, thing did go completely silent especially we had made it known to both the owner of the vehicle as well as to the insurance company the severity of the situation and the hardship that it brings when someone is without a house. Since the report that was made yesterday, this morning, we received communications once again from the insurance company and they will now look at the matter and we can have a settlement by the end of this week so that the need for a lawsuit would not be required. All insurance companies should be encouraged to resolve these matters in a faster, more competent way so that persons could feel assured that relief would be forthcoming quickly.”
