Has Elections & Boundaries Chair Estevan Perera Had a Change of Heart?

Estevan Perera

Attorney Estevan Perera remains the chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission, despite calls from the new administration for him to resign. Earlier this month, Perera issued a letter quoting section eighty-eight of the Constitution, which speaks to how a person by law is removed from the commission and that the appointment should not be confused with those made for statutory boards. Today, News Five spoke to the chairman, who seems to be having a change of heart.

“That matter is still being considered by me. I am not in a position to speak on it yet. As soon as I am, I will let you know. I will be in a position to speak about it shortly, before the end of this week. But because of certain considerations, personal considerations that I am looking at, I am not in a position to respond to that as yet.”

“Sir so you are having a change of heart?”

Estevan Perera

“It is not about a change of heart and when you read the acumen I sent out to the news companies that were presented, I clearly indicated that the letter was to educate the public as to what the position entails and what is required of the position. It did not signify a decision either as to whether or not I will remain in the position.”
