Oscar Correa’s Skeletal Remains Found in San Ignacio – Did He Kill Himself?
In Cayo, a mason worker from the Santiago Juan Layout near the Bullet Tree Road in San Ignacio was found dead. His decapitated body was discovered hanging from a tree in the Kontiki area. Police information suggests that Oscar Correa killed himself by hanging, but his family believes someone killed him. The family says that Correa was his usual self when he left home almost a month ago. The father of five told his family that he was going into town to meet some friends, and that was the last time they saw him. His decomposed body was discovered on Monday afternoon. Today we spoke with Correa’s daughter, Neily, who tells us that they are not willing to label her father’s death a suicide because they found that the skull had detached from the skeletal remains at the scene. Also, he wasn’t suicidal.
On the Phone: Neily Correa, Daughter of the deceased
“The last time we saw him was the twenty-eight of December.”
Andrea Polanco
“And what was that last time talking with him like?”
On the Phone: Neily Correa
“Hmm the last time he seemed like a normal person.”
Andrea Polanco
“When he left home, did he tell you guys where he was going?”
On the Phone: Neily Correa
“No. He just said that he was going to come at the town with some friends but it seems that he didn’t come with no friends downtown.”
Andrea Polanco
“And when you didn’t see him for a while, did you guys grow concerned or did you file a police report?”
On the Phone: Neily Correa
“We knew something had happened because he never leaves home without saying anything.”
Andrea Polanco
“And so he never gave you guys any indication that something was wrong that he would harm himself?”
On the Phone: Neily Correa
“No. He was acting so kind, so loving like as usual.”
Andrea Polanco
“Do you believe that he killed himself?”
On the Phone: Neily Correa
“No.”
Andrea Polanco
“What makes you that way?”
On the Phone: Neily Correa
“Because his head was on the ground and his body was complete – his head was already skull.”
Andrea Polanco
“So, you believe somebody decapitated him – took his head off?”
On the Phone: Neily Correa
“We more believe that.”
Correa’s family informed us late this evening that his death was certified as ‘mechanical asphyxia due to hanging.’ They say there were no other injuries on the body.
