Dead infant’s mother may be in Belize City

Its been nine days and police have still been unable to locate the mother of a newborn baby murdered and left on the bank of Havana Creek in Dangriga. The investigation has been hindered by the fact that no one in the area wants to talk. Now, while there have been reports that the mother may have left the country, new information suggests she may actually be in Belize City, and trying to get the money to go to the US. Police say the six and a half month old baby girl was taken into the area on the northside of the creek where its tongue was cut out and then its throat slit with a sharp object. A deep cut extending from the baby’s right cheek to its lip was also observed. Police suspect, because they may have been seen near the creek, the person did not have time to dispose the body into the water, but rather left it lying in the open on some nearby grass. The area, which is at the entrance to the town is heavily populated and authorities believe there are people, who may know what took place and who is involved. The medical examination has revealed that the baby is either of Garifuna or Creole decent. According to Dr. Mario Estradabran, the baby was born on the same day it was discovered. If you have any information about this case, you are asked to call the nearest police station.
