Oscar Arnold Bows Out of Upcoming Municipal Race

Oscar Arnold

Former Deputy Mayor Oscar Arnold has taken up office as Director of Sports at the National Sports Council. It’s an appointment given to him by the People’s United Party government following his defeat in Collet during the November 2020 general elections. He’s also a member of the Belize City Council under Mayor Bernard Wagner. Earlier today, Councilor Arnold told News Five that he is stepping away from electoral politics for personal reasons and won’t be contesting his seat on the Wagner ticket during this weekend’s party convention.

Oscar Arnold, Councilor, Belize City Council

“For the municipals no, I have advised the party chair and the secretary general’s office of the P.U.P. that I would not be contesting the municipal elections for personal reasons, but I believe that we need to continue to groom and improve the cadre of young professionals in our party.  I think there are some great young candidates.  I believe that the councilors who are seeking reelection are also a great team. I was able to build a relationship with them while campaigning and while at City Hall.  I still pledge my support to Mayor Wagner and I’ve told him, whenever you need me, whenever you need my expertise, know that you have a friend and even more so at friend at the National Sports Council.  So the City Council has many sports programs that they’ve launched and lots more that they want to do, so I see it as an opportunity for us to be able to come together and do much more great things.”
