Census to start May 12th; slogan chosen
The winning slogan for the 2000 census is “Every Woman, Every Man, Every Child, Counts.” The entry was submitted by BDF Captain Lloyd Jones on duty in the Orange Walk District. Jones won $250.00 from the Central Statistical Office as part of their public awareness campaign leading up to the census on May 12th. Specially trained enumerators will spend six to eight weeks canvassing the country to find out how much the population has increased since the 1991 census and gather data, which can be used to formulate economic and social policy. The CSO reminds the public that all information shared in the interviews is confidential. The 1991 census indicated that the total population in Belize at that time was 189,392. CSO says they predict the total will be near 250,000 this time around.
