Oscar Mira

Meanwhile in Belmopan, the People’s United Party will hold a convention on Sunday to choose its slate to contest the upcoming municipals elections.  One hundred and eighty-three delegates will choose the party’s next slate.  Six mayoral candidates want to represent the P.U.P.  There are reports of in-fighting because some supporters believe that the P.U.P. Area Representative in Belmopan Oscar Mira has a preferred candidate. He denied these reports, saying he is willing to work with whoever is victorious on Sunday.

Oscar Mira, Area Representative, Belmopan

“There are a hundred and eighty three delegates that will be casting their votes Sunday to elect our mayoral, city council slate.”

Hipolito Novelo

“I believe there are about six mayoral candidates and from what I have been told there is in-fighting.”

Oscar Mira

“I don’t believe that there is any in-fighting. I think that as in very convention, in every election everyone is doing their work. They are making sure that they go and campaign to the delegates so that they can be elected. As in any election, you have to go out there and convince those delegates that you are the best persons. I think that is what is happening right now. We do want to make sure that Sunday is a peaceful convention. I think that it is going to be. I have not heard that there is any in-fighting but as in any other election, it is very competitive.”

Hipolito Novelo

“However, I heard that you have your preferred candidate, Ms. Palacio.”

Oscar Mira

“No. I think we have six very good mayoral candidates that are running in Belmopan. As the area representative, I will work with whoever wins on Sunday.”
