Radio donates to B.C.V.I
In November, the British Forces Broadcast Service, B.F.B.S. launched a radiothon to raise funds for the British Charity “Wireless for the Blind.” Today, they handed over twenty percent of the money raised to the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired. $5,400 was presented to Joan Musa, B.C.V.I.’s director. Musa says the organization welcomes the assistance for their comprehensive national programme.

“This is the third year that B.F.B.S. has given us a donation. This year they have given us a larger percent plus they have raised more money, so it is greatly appreciated by us. We are a national organization, an NGO that has to raise all our money and we are very fortunate to have gotten some grants, we have some income generating. But fundraising is always a problem and it sometimes takes a lot of time away from your work. So when someone actually does the fundraising for you this is very much appreciated.
B.C.V.I. has offices in the city and district towns. It provides basic eye screening, medications and low cost glasses. The B.C.V.I. is also planning to employ its first full time ophthalmologist. Other B.C.V.I. programmes include referral services and rehabilitation for people who cannot benefit from medical treatments and surgery.
