No Mask? Breach of Curfew? No Social Distancing? You will be Ticketed $500!
And if you find yourself breaking those laws, you will be penalized. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says that if you breach the curfew, face mask and social distancing regulations, you will be ticketed five hundred bucks. All other offences will send you before the court. Here’s how he explains it:
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“For a breach of the curfew, a breach of the mask regulation and the social distancing regulation it is now a ticketed offense. And so we are in the process of preparing the tickets and we will be distributing the tickets countrywide for officers to issue to violators. The tickets, the person to whom a ticket is issued, will have fifteen calendar days to pay the ticket of five hundred dollars. Every day after the fifteenth day that the ticket remains unpaid, the ticket goes up by ten dollars. All other offenses under the regulations are arrest-able offenses for which the police will arrest and carry a maximum fine of a thousand dollars. If a person doesn’t agree with the ticket or believe they may have some justification, the ticket goes with what is a referred to as a defendant’s summons. At the bottom of the ticket, the police will write that out and will tell you if it is that you do not agree, the matter will go to the court and then you have a trial. But I believe the ticket is going to be more expedient and a person who knows he or she is wrong will just go and pay the ticket as opposed to going to court and clog up the court system.”
