Where Are We with the Montero Probe?

And while the Commission will look into irregularities in those sales, what about the allegations against former Minister of Works Rene Montero?  The Attorney General’s Ministry is one of three government agencies presently looking into allegations of impropriety at the Ministry of Works under former minister.  In early January, Minister of Infrastructure Development and Housing, Julius Espat, wrote to the Office of the Attorney General, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to investigate claims made against Montero. The allegations were that he reportedly used public assets for personal and private gains. Attorney General Magali Marin-Young explains the role of her office in the probe.

“There is a current investigation and, as you know, the police investigation takes precedence.  So the AG’s ministry will await the outcome of the police investigation and based on the evidence that is presented to us, we will analyze and see if there is a case to recover the assets or any damages that the government suffered.”
