Three escape from Police at Magistrate Court
The media in Belize rarely has to report on prison breaks, because it seems anyone who really wants to leave Hattieville can find a way to escape without damaging their cell. Or, if they are really “facey,” they just slip off their handcuffs and run away while being escorted to or from court. Both scenarios occurred again this week, with the incidents overlapping each other. On Thursday morning, three trustees who walked away from the prison farm the day before, were apprehended on the Western Highway. But not long after law enforcement officers congratulated themselves for a job well done, three more prisoners escaped while under police escort between the Magistrate Court in Belize City and the Eastern Division Police Station. According to police, eight prisoners were being taken across, handcuffed together in pairs. Suddenly Daryl Jones, Salva Carballo and Brian Walker “somehow” managed to get the cuffs off and run away. Carballo was picked up around 9:00am today at a house on Partridge Street Extension. He did not resist arrest. Jones, was serving three years for theft and had appeared in court to be charged with the attempted murder of his cellmate earlier this month. Brian Walker was serving three years for grievous harm. Both are still at large.
