PM Briceño Announces Ambassador Designates
Prime Minister John Briceño today announced his picks for diplomatic posting. Ambassador-designate Lynn Young will be posted in the United States of America and serve as Belize’s Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States. Belize City Councilor Oscar Arnold has been chosen as ambassador-designate to the United Mexican States. The former C.E.O. in the Ministry of Agriculture Jose Alpuche is the country’s Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Guatemala, while Therese Rath is High Commissioner Designate to the United Kingdom. Doctor Candice Pitts is Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Cherie Nisbet is Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of El Salvador. Lou-Anne Burns Martinez is Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Cuba. Carlos Fuller will be Belize’s Permanent Representative Designate to the United Nations and Alexis Rosado is now the Ambassador-Designate to the Kingdom of Belgium, the European Union and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States. The CEO in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amalia Mai has also been named the Non-Resident Ambassador-Designate to SICA. And Lawrence Sylvestre will continue to serve as Belize’s Non-Resident Ambassador to CARICOM. These new ambassador designates are tasked with the dual focus of bilateral relations and trade. Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay says the list represents an excellent blend of experienced and new diplomats, all well qualified and ready to represent Belize and Belizeans. Courtenay says, “I am excited to be a part of this new thrust of the Government and look forward to working with the designated diplomats for the benefit of Belize.” We note that the ambassador designates a fair share of professional women.
