Dolphins defeats Real Verdes

Story Picture
Good evening, I’m James Adderly, welcome to this edition of Sports Monday. It’s the second week of the BFL Playoffs and the San Pedro Dolphins took their championship hopes into the Norman Broaster Stadium, looking for a win against Real Verdes in a battle of teams searching for their first playoff victory.

Right off the top, Verdes uses the home team advantage to press for the opening goal, but Deon Frazier fires a misguided missile right here. At the eight minute, this corner kick from Julio Santos find Raimundo “Gigio” Flores who serves a wicked header into the “V” as Verdes takes the one-zip lead.

The reply from the Dolphins team is immediate, the European import, Swede, raises this left foot, over John Brooks and in less than ten minutes in we have a one-one tie. Seven minutes later this goal kick from Delmar Sutherland allows Christopher Hendricks to out-run the Verdes defense and his big time splice gives the Dolphins a two-one lead.

Even before Verdes could recover, the Dolphins make it a three-one ball game, when this ticklish heel pass from Dean Flowers allows Christopher Hendricks to get his second goal of the match. Folks, today the goal came fast and furious and in the twentieth minute, Gigio Flores finds Earl Peters, who delivers a strike into the net for a three-two score.

Meanwhile, you can’t blink in this one as Dean Flowers outruns the Verdes defense and heads a ground ball into the net for four-two the lead. This header off the ground might be the first of its kind in this BFL season.

Like we said before, it’s goals galore today and Verdes comes right back to score, when Archilla finds Raimundo Flores whose left foot bomb crashes into the net for the four-three score. Verdes could tie the score here, but this cruel header by Flores only allows Sutherland to display his great goal keeping ability.

In second half, the Dolphins with the lead still come out firing and how they fail to score on this press is a mystery. However a minute later, this corner kick is kept alive to Clifford Usher, who beats his man to give the Dolphins a five-three lead.

It’s a beaten Verdes team now and the Dolphins do capitalize, Flowers finds Christopher Hendricks and he comes up with his third goal of the match to give San Pedro a six-three big W and its first playoff win.

Ian Moore, Player/Coach, San Pedro Dolphins

“Yes I agree, we definitely needed this and it’s a huge win for us. We have been going through a lot with the club, financially we’ve had some troubles. We’ve had some sponsors on the island, trying to help us out. But this is the kind of game that we needed to get back into the playoffs and I told the guys before we started, today we just have to play football. We have the players that can do it. Our problem right now is consistency. Sometimes we’re good, sometimes we’re bad, as you’ve probably seen. If we can get the consistency through out the playoffs–I believe we have the players–we can be very effective in the playoffs and we should give a good run to the title.”

In other playoff action, over the weekend, Grigamandala, beat Kulture Yabra one-nil, on penalty kicks at Dangriga, While Sagitun issued out a five-zip blast on La Victoria at Independence.

Turning to the cycling scene, the veteran Andrew Smiling, strutted his stuff in prime time, by taking yesterday’s Valentine’s Classic. He out sprinted archrival Ernest Meighan, who took second and Jeffrey Zelaya, who pulled up third.

In closing folks, we want to invite you to look out for a special feature on Milton Palacio, coming up shortly only here on Channel Five. We were in Los Angeles for the Vancouver Grizzlies NBA win over the L.A. Clippers at the Staple Center Thursday night. You won’t want to miss it.
