14 year old alleges rape in Independence

Police have arrested a man from Independence after he allegedly brought a fourteen year old Guatemalan girl to Belize and then raped her. The girl claims she met Raul Acevedo in Rio Dulce, Guatemala on the fourth of February and he transported her to Belize on the sixth. She told police that the same day he took her to his house in Independence, raped her and held her there against her will. She says she escaped on the tenth and with the help of some villagers went to the police station. Acevedo has been charged with unlawful carnal knowledge, rape, harm and assisting someone to enter Belize. The Raul Acevedo charged in this incident is from the Stann Creek District and is not the same Raul Acevedo of the Freetown Drug Store in Belize City.

In another incident, a Belize City waitress reported being raped on Friday night. The woman told police a dark man knocked on her door at one am and offered to sell her a pair of slippers. She says she opened the door and the man pulled a knife. She says despite her struggles, the man raped her and cut her several times with the weapon. She was taken to the KHMH for treatment. No arrest has been made.
