Several shots were fired in broad daylight. A security camera captures the moment the shooter pounced, and the moment he rode away on his bicycle.
The victim has been identified as forty-three-year-old Jose Santos, a driver of the Eight Miles community. He was in this yellow delivery truck parked on Mahogany Street in front of Tow Tow when the shooter targeted him.
At ten-fourteen, the security camera records the truck parking. Seconds later, the delivery man exits the passenger seat. Santos remains in the driver’s seat as pedestrians walk by. Suddenly the sound of gunshots disrupts the business on Mahogany Street. Witnesses quickly run as the shooter rides away. It would be minutes after that Santos is rushed to the hospital. The passenger seat left stained with blood. Police quickly arrive, and the hunt for the killer ensues.
Scenes of crime technicians canvas the crime scene, collecting evidence as pedestrians look on in shock at the brazen broad light attempt on Santos’ life. On Carnation Street, not far from the shooting, investigators found a black nine-millimeter firearm with one live round. Investigators believe this was the shooter’s gun.
And while Santos remains in a stable condition, investigations are trying to figure out if this was an armed robbery turned shooting or a direct hit on Santos. Reporting for News Five, I am Hipolito Novelo.
