Marcel Cardona knocks his own government in House
There is more on yesterday’s budget debate in the House of Representatives. In the afternoon, Orange Walk East Area Representative, Marcel Cardona, who was recently ousted from Cabinet as the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, took the floor and he did not spare any words for his own government for ignoring his constituency. And before he concluded, Cardona also had words of advice, presumably for the leadership of his party, and referred to a famous quote.
Marcel Cardona, Ousted from Cabinet
“Why must the people of the Orange Walk East constituency continue to be denied access to and the use of valuable parcels of residential lots that have already been surveyed and are available in the Carmelita area. Why? For over one year not a single parcel of land has been distributed by myself in the Orange Walk East constituency. Why? That is the question my friends. Is this showing any proper respect for the good people of the Orange Walk East Division who went out and elected a U.D.P. area representative in the last election? Is this how we, or rather, the Minister with responsibility for Natural Resources shows his gratitude and appreciation to the people of the Louisiana are in the Orange Walk East constituency for having once again come out in their numbers to support up to three hundred and sixty-three votes over the P.U.P. candidates. The Orange Walk East constituency, my friends like other constituencies, has many needs. The Orange Walk East constituency needs, among other things, a new high school, it needs new health care facilities in the Louisiana to provide more accessible medical care and attention to the forty-one percent of the residents of Orange Walk Town who resided in the Louisiana area. It needs a medical health post in Chan Pine Ridge Village and in the Santa Martha Village. It needs improved or better roads and sugar roads for our cane farmers, which I am happy to hear we will be having shortly. It needs the paving of the one and a half mile stretch of Chan Pine Ridge Road from the Esso Come and Go Gas Station to the entrance of Chan Pine Ridge Village. This was promised to the residents of Chan Pine Ridge Village by the Honourable Minister of Works himself at last year’s Chan Pine Ridge fiesta and the people of Chan Pine Ridge are counting on him to deliver. Dwight Eisenhower, a former US president once said “you do not lead people by hitting people over the head, that’s assault; it’s not leadership”. Two: Andrew Carnegie, the writer once said “No man will make a great leader who wants to it all himself or to get all the credit for doing it”. And three: Theodore Roosevelt, another former US president said “The best leader is the one who has the sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done and self restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.””
