Escaped prisoner shot while fleeing police
Today an escaped prisoner was apprehended by police on Caesar Ridge Road, but it took a bullet to stop him. News Five was called to the scene this afternoon.

After being on the run for three weeks, the police finally caught up with twenty-four year old Dennis “Desho” Quilter. The prisoner apparently had taken up residence with a female friend who was renting a room at number 7191B Caesar Ridge Road. Acting on a tip, CIB conducted a raid in the area and found Quilter inside the building. Quilter tried to make another run for freedom but did not get very far. A tenant, who did not wish to appear on camera said he was in his room when his wall came crashing down.

“I was in my room with my kid right and all of a sudden I see two vehicles pull up and it was the cops. Then I heard noise and then I saw my wall burst in, right and then I see this boy run out and then he run to the back and he tried to hop the fence and I heard shots and I guess one of the bullets caught him.”
Quilter received a gunshot wound to his right buttock. He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Police say they found a toy gun, a woolen cap and dark clothing in Quilter’s room. They say it is likely the young woman he was staying with, will be charged with harbouring a criminal. Since his escape from Hattieville prison on January twenty second, the police believe Quilter has been involved in a string of burglaries. The most recent was on February the third, when he was caught allegedly attempting to steal a television from a house on Berkeley Street.
