Mealy Bug quarantine checkpoints over

Quarantine checkpoints for the Pink Hibiscus Mealy Bug have been removed, but the Ministry of Agriculture says the bug still poses a threat to agricultural areas. The Ministry is asking for continued public cooperation to limit the movement of plants from Belize City, Belmopan and Hopkins. Although the P.H.M.B. task force has determined that wasps and ladybird beetles released to combat the Pink Mealy Bug are well established in these areas this doesn’t mean Belize is mealy bug free. Regulations to manage the pest and control the movement of plants countrywide will be released in the near future.
