SCPC Manager Fired One Month after He Was Hired!
One month after he was hired, the Sugar Cane Production Committee Manager was fired! On Tuesday night, Naim Cal was given his walking papers; terminated on the spot. The S.C.P.C., according to some in the industry, plays an essential role between the mill and sugarcane. What’s important to note is that Cal was named manager when his predecessor was also terminated instantly at the end of December. As it relates to Cal’s firing, there were reports that the police were called in last night. But when we spoke with the chair of the Sugar Industry Control Board, Marcos Osorio, he denied police involvement and said that the matter was handled peacefully. It is unclear what led to this latest firing as the man who did the termination will not reveal the reason. Here’s what he told reporter Andrea Polanco about the termination.
Marcos Osorio, Chairman, Sugar Industry Control Board
“What is true is the termination of the manager of the SCPC – that is true. In terms of police involvement – absolutely not true. It was a smooth process. The manager had no resistance. He returned all assets belonging to the SCPC and I think we had a very cordial discussion for the reasons for his termination.”
Andrea Polanco
“Is this some sudden decision that was made?”
Marcos Osorio
“Of course, yes. I had called the manager to report to the office from nine in the morning and right through the day he kept saying he was too busy and by five o’clock he said I am unable to make it to the office and so I decided to take visit to the ticket booth and there I found him and I told him well, a decision has been made and I need to proceed with the implementation of the decision.”
Andrea Polanco
“Who makes such a decision to terminate the SCPC Manager – because I was made to understand that this person would usually be appointed or selected or hired by the members – but we are hearing that perhaps some government arm or someone from the government may have been involved in the hiring – so is someone from the government also involved in the firing?”
Marcos Osorio
“Well, I cannot speak about that. It is an internal decision. I will not speak about the reason or who terminated or who didn’t terminate in terms of the decision made and that is an internal matter.”
Andrea Polanco
“When you say an internal decision made, Mr. Osorio, kindly oblige me, are you saying that this is a decision that the SCPC made or is this decision of yours?”
Marcos Osorio
“A decision of mine – if that satisfies an answer.”
