Man is Shot in Leg after He Allegedly Assaulted Police Officer

Over the weekend, there was another police-involved shooting on Saturday on Marine Parade in Belize City. Akeem Patterson was on Marine Parade when a machete-wielding man chopped him on the head. The police were called, and the assailant, identified as Francis Ramos, attacked one of the officers who pulled out his service-issued weapon and fired a shot that caught him in the leg. Both Patterson and the Ramos were taken to the K.H.M.H. for treatment. Today, Deputy Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero shared details.

“Saturday around four p.m., Akeem Patterson reported that he was at Marine Parade when he was approached by a male person who inflicted a chop wound to him on his head for no apparent reason. The police was called, the police responded at which point the male person who had inflicted the chop wound assaulted the police with the machete and as a result, he was shot to the leg. The male person was identified as Francis Ramos, a Belizean of no fixed addressed. He was taken to the K.H.M.H. where he remains in a stable condition. Akeem Patterson was treated and released from the K.H.M.H.”
