Zero Tolerance for Sexual Assault Incidents Behind Price Barracks Walls
Also during Nomination Day in Belmopan, News Five caught up with Belmopan Area Representative and Junior Minister in the Ministry of National Defense and Border Security, Oscar Mira. We asked him about reports of sexual assault cases at Price Barracks. A retired soldier himself, Minister Mira says that he has a zero tolerance policy for these crimes.
Oscar Mira, Minister of State, National Defense & Border Security
“It is as if though the previous government just gave up on the B.D.F. and we are starting to work in ensuring that when it comes to sexual harassment, we have a zero tolerance on sexual harassment. And we have indicated that to the general and to the leadership of the B.D.F. and the coast guard. That is not going to be tolerated. That whenever one of the security forces does or is accused of wrongdoing that the law will be followed and if they need to be criminal charged that they do so. So we are not going to be here trying to defend anyone. We all know and we have in our code of conduct how you should be behaving and we will not tolerate, at all, any sexual harassment, be it for anyone in the forces.”
