Audubon books move to U.C.B.
They have been building the collection for years, but decided it was time to let the public enjoy it. Today the Belize Audubon Society officially loaned its entire library collection to the University College of Belize. The students, particularly those in the Natural Resource Management Programme definitely appreciate the gesture.
Osmany Salas, Executive Director, BAS
“It’s a very extensive collection which we have compiled over the past thirty one years. And the idea behind this whole agreement is to make our library collection more available, more easily accessible to students, researchers and the members of the society and we felt by having it here at the University it would be more accessible to the general public. We have everything from scientific journals dealing with birds to an entire National Geographic collection to research, to reports of research done by scientists on a host of issues in Belize dealing from fisheries research to reef and marine research.”
Cianelly Romero, Student, NRMP Programme
“Well in the beginning has been very very difficult because the university does not have enough resources. We had to go on our own, sometimes we had to go to Belmopan to the Department, to the Department of Environment, we had to go to Belize Audubon society, fisheries and we had to fight for what we wanted.”
The collection is worth ten thousand dollars and will be on loan to UCB for the next five years.
