ComPol Williams on Safety Tips
For some time now, there has been a seeming increase in property crimes, including home invasions, robberies and vehicle theft. It is something that the Belize Police Department has been trying to get a grip on, even with its limited human resources and assets. As it finalizes its strategy going forward, ComPol Chester Williams says that residents as well as businesses must take necessary precautions to safeguard their lives and properties.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“We do not have the manpower to put a police on every street corner, to put a police in every person’s home to protect them. And so we want to implore on business owners and the ordinary law-abiding citizens to put in place your own security mechanism that would make it difficult for you to become a victim of these crimes. One such thing is to always ensure you know your surroundings, be careful of who you invite to your house or who comes around your house; do not keep cash in large quantity inside your home. Do not put things in front of your home that suggest that you recently acquire new equipment or new items. There are number of things that you can do to prevent yourself from being looked upon as a target.”
