Fifteenth court case… second conviction
It was his fifteenth trip to the court and he has only one conviction under his belt, but today he landed his second when twenty-one year old Gion Bernard was found guilty of Theft. Magistrate Dorothy Flowers sentenced him to six months for theft and six months for an additional charge of Damage to Property; both to run concurrently. The incident occurred in June of last year when jeweler, Noe Martinez, found out that his Honda Accord was broken into and several items were stolen including the car battery, a tool box, a JVC radio, CD player and the vehicle’s insurance sticker. Police found the insurance sticker when they searched Bernard on Lovely Lane and the other items were recovered from a yard on Pickstock Street. Bernard pleaded not guilty to the charge of Theft, but claimed that he was on his way to buy cannabis when he was apprehended by police.
