B.E.L. Hosts Virtual A.G.M.
Belize Electricity Limited held its annual general meeting virtually this afternoon to shareholders only. It was the first AGM under the People’s United Party government, since the company’s board of directors was reconstituted back in December. Led by Chairman Andrew Marshalleck, the meeting focused on the company’s fiscal performance over the past year and presented its accounts to shareholders. The last twelve months have also seen B.E.L., like other public utility companies, adjusting to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. News Five understands that the purchase of power from Mexico has been an issue for B.E.L. because of a scarcity of foreign exchange. A statement from the company is expected to be released on Friday. We’ll have more in our subsequent newscast.
