BTL launches school phone program
In an effort to keep Belize’s children safe, BTL has started a phone program in the schools. The company says “Learn ‘n Phone” is in response to a request from the National Committee for Families and Children who noticed that a lot of children have to leave campus to call home for emergencies or to ask parents to pick them up. So far six schools have gotten phones from BTL and six more will be installed next week. According to BTL Public Relations Director Dionne Chamberlain, schools like Queen’s Square Anglican have embraced the program, and each child now has a phone card. Chamberlain says principals suggested that BTL introduce a two-dollar phone card so the children won’t make unnecessary calls and everyone can afford them. A phone for the children of St. John Vianney School was dedicated this afternoon. BTL says they are absorbing the cost of the installation and invite other schools around the country to apply for the phones by calling BTL’s public relations department.
