Mexico offers BDF training opportunities
The Minister of National Security Jorge Espat was the guest of Mexico’s Minister of National Defense General Enrique Cervantes Aguirre this week in Mexico City. The visit was designed to further strengthen military ties between both countries and explore ways to deal with common threats across our borders. Areas of mutual co-operation discussed include training exchange, intelligence sharing and disaster management. Mexico’s Minister of Defense offered Espat military scholarships for BDF personnel and agreed to allow senior public officials access to Mexico’s military hospitals. Minister Espat toured a military academy, a factory that manufactures military supplies and four military hospitals. General Cervantes Aguirre has been invited to make an official visit to Belize. Mexico’s Chief of Staff, General Juan A. Salinas, is also expected to visit Belize to explore possible military assistance and co-operation. Espat was accompanied by Brigadier General Garcia, Commandant of the Belize Defense Force and Perla Hinojosa, Minister Counselor at Belize’s Embassy in Mexico.
