Shooting on Election Day!
Quarantine regulations were in full effect on election day across the country, with a curfew – only for that day – beginning at eight p.m. This was in an effort to minimize social gatherings and to prevent motorcades and other celebratory events in the wake of election results. But even as there were a few infractions in terms of gatherings under tents, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams told News Five that those persons were warned and given a pass. There was, however, a shooting incident in Belize City to which officers responded. ComPol Williams shared details.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“There was an incident in Belize City where from what I have been briefed, there were two persons who were arguing and one of them may have pulled out a gun and fired some shots. Apparently in the air; no one was injured. Police are on top of that and we are looking for an individual in respect of that matter. But apart from that incident, the country remains quiet. I have been in the south, I have been in the west, I have been in Belize City; I went to Orange Walk and now I am in Corozal Town. Again, everything is going fine and we hope that it continues this way until the last vote is counted tonight.”
