Cruise ship passengers in river accident
On Thursday evening some cruise ship passengers received minor injuries on a river trip in the Orange Walk District. The incident occurred after five p.m. on the New River. According to reports the tourists were aboard a chartered vessel from Orange Walk Town and had just finished a tour of the Lamanai Maya Ruin. On the way back the boat’s steering cable broke causing the captain to lose control of the vessel. There was a rush of water, some of which came into the boat. Several passengers were jolted around and received bruises. They were immediately taken to the Orange Walk hospital, treated and released. Later that evening they boarded their cruise ship and departed on schedule. The incident is being investigated by the Tourism Police.
